Identifying effective tobacco dependence treatment is the result of a great deal of science-based research. The Center for Tobacco Cessation bases its work on the findings of two key documents: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence: A Clinical Practice Guideline (USPHS, 2000) and The Guide to Community Preventive Services: Tobacco Use Prevention and Control (CDC, 2000). These documents, combined with ongoing research, show us “what works” in cessation.
